POS 03 — Desert Adventure Off the Beaten Track
You will hit the road making your way along a portion of Route 66. You’ll visit the Kelso Depot and Kelso Dunes on your way Joshua Tree National Park. You’ll learn about the Integratron, erected in 1959, whose builder claimed it was capable of rejuvenation, anti-gravity and time travel. You will enjoy one night at Kate Lazy Desert Airstream Motel.
At Cabot’s Pueblo Museum, you’ll explore a Hopi-inspired pueblo that was handmade and created from reclaimed and found materials. The pueblo, with four stories and 5,000 square feet, includes 35 rooms, 150 windows and 65 doors. You’ll also visit California’s largest lake, the Salton Sea, and the quirky Salvation Mountain. This work is the artist’s tribute to God and his gift to the world with its simple yet powerful message: “God Is Love.” There is no better way to explore the evocative California desert than by Jeep. On this portion of the tour you will visit a natural palm oasis and spectacular box and slot canyons. You’ll view an ancient fossil bed as your jeep winds its way through the incredible labyrinth of geological cuts and canyons of the San Andreas Fault Zone. Are faster vehicles your desire? You will satisfy your need for speed at the Thermal Club, home of the only BMW Performance Driving Center on the West Coast.
