Dear Fellow Members of SATW, June 2015
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our 2015 Convention in Downtown Las Vegas. We have much to celebrate this year, beginning with our 60th anniversary. We selected Reinvention Convention as our theme as we look to the best of the past and the excitement of the future to develop and strengthen our careers as well as our wonderful organization.
In keeping with our theme, we have chosen Downtown Las Vegas, the old-new industrial chic area. The heart of the city of Las Vegas, this neighborhood changes almost daily as intense urban renewal spurred by significant investment from Zappos founder Tony Hsieh inspires others to reinvent the town. If you haven’t been Downtown in 2015, you haven’t seen Downtown Las Vegas where it all began. Downtown Las Vegas is a grand experiment in revitalizing a storied destination, and our members will have access to the stories of the moment.
Our host hotel, The Downtown Grand located in the middle of the Downtown revival, underwent a huge renovation and re-opened at the end of 2013. With 634 rooms, a rooftop pool, stylish rooms, and gambling tables, SATW members are indeed in luck.
Reinventing the Convention
This year–for this meeting only–we are trying a few organizational changes to provide members greater flexibility. The first element you will notice is that airfare/transportation to Las Vegas is on your own. Likewise, all delegates book and pay for hotel rooms separately from registration.
Our core conventions typically last five nights and five days. This year the core convention encompasses three nights and two days. During this time you’ll find the business meeting, professional development sessions, Marketplace, Awards Lunch, 60th Anniversary Gala, and Chapter/Council meetings. All of this is included in the core convention registration fee.
Our half-day and full-day tours take place after the core meeting and will be sold individually–gently priced to cover only transportation and meal costs not covered by our hosts. Plus, we have an exciting Night on the Strip planned for Wednesday evening (gently priced as well) as well as the Closing Ceremony on Thursday night (free for all convention delegates)
Please see the FAQ section for any additional questions you may have and continually check back to the website for new information. We will be adding more details as soon as they are available. We very much appreciate hearing your feedback as to the new structure.
I am looking forward to connecting, learning, reporting, and celebrating with you in Downtown Las Vegas.
